Editorial - Android, the Beginning of a New Era of Mobile Operating Systems

Bookmark and Share

Initially the OS of Windows Mobile and Palm OS ruled the Earth. One day, the iPhone from Apple OS began to dominate the market. Today, a new competitor has climbed into the ring, Google Android. Google is slowly taking the world took our search engines, and we loved. They took our YouTube and we loved. You are now taking on our phones and I love you, but not today.

Currently the only official Android compatible phone is the G1 from T-Mobile, which has already shown that the Android operating system has great potential because it is open. I've been watching a lot of programs for the Android platform, but the iPhone has much more interesting programs. I see programs hit the iPhone first and then comes a similar program for Android. It's a great idea to let people to develop programs on their own, not to mention that it creates a very cheap market where you can get most of their programs for free. I have downloaded many programs but there is much more customization that can have, we have simply not seen yet. One thing I'm personally hoping, is a theme of today, as well as the Blackberry and Windows Mobile home screen showing their daily tasks, messages, and emails.

I would also like to see an on-screen keyboard which conceals the iPhone. Now there are a few on the market but they are not so good and can only be used when it is text messaging, do not work in your calendar or your emails. This is something developers Android should be working feverishly in because the T-Mobile G2 proposal does not have a physical keyboard, but is port rather the G1? Only time will tell. Love the Android OS one day, but not yet.

Like how there is not one, not two, but three desks, needing much space? I need all that space! Allow me to put my icons and shortcuts of the application in a fast accessible location with only a stroke of your finger, no more digging through the menu of the program. One thing I like to see is a transparent slide of one screen to another. Right now the Android operating system has lock screens on a desk and then another and another.

Another thing that bothers me about the Android system is not able to install programs on your SD card, programs must be installed on the phone and as you know the G1 does not have infinite memory. It would be good to install and run programs from the SD, as well as Windows Mobile card. Of course the iPhone does not have this problem because it has a lot of integrated memory and expansion slots.

The Android operating system is great, possibly better than Windows Mobile and iPhone OS, but has much more potential to be even better and fully assume our cell phones. I have only simple complaints about Android, it isn't anything big, but with such a dynamic and powerful operating system, has not disappointed me is mind blowing. I hope more, I expected much more, and I think that Android will offer everything and anything that you can imagine in future revisions, but not even today.
