The Hunt for Android's Version of Siri

Bookmark and Share

A short time ago, Apple released the iPhone 4s and together with him arrived Siri. Siri is described as a personal assistant on your phone. Basically, you talk to Siri and does what you say to do. You can answer questions, tell the time and even send text along with a host of other things. From what I've seen, Siri seems to be an amazing app. I have to admit that Apple has raised the bar with this one which is a great thing for Android users. To stay competitive, the Android developers will have to come up with something that is less good, if not better than Siri. Fortunately, developers have already begun to work in clones of Siri and emerged with two applications that seem pretty good. I have tried five of the most promising applications, they are judged on the accuracy of the results, speed and appearance. Here are the results of hunting version of Android Siri:

1. Andy - this application has been very disappointing. She felt very refined and clunky. Answers to questions came slow if they came at all. The appearance of the app was missing, so she was crowned with a display ad in. I do not recommend to spend his time on this score - 38/100 app.

2. Skyvi - this is another disappointing app that shares many of the same problems as Andy. Skyvi had a lot of inaccurate results in a confusing and frustrating interface. The application is also attractive to put it mildly. Score global-44/100

3. Iris - surprisingly this app did not succeed as well as I thought. It has a nice and clean interface which reacted quickly when prompted. IRIS also has a good personality programmed therein. Unfortunately, the results were fairly inaccurate and limited functionality. The application is still in its early stages and I hope that a formidable opponent will be to Siri in his next couple updates. Score global-59/100

4. Assistant Speaktoit - proven Siri, Speaktoit clones was the app more precise and better performance. It has a highly configurable UI which looks great and operates nearly impeccably with one big exception. Voice recognition interface only worked about 50% of the time. I'm not sure if the problem was my specific device or not but this was a deal breaker for me. Looking to the past failure of voice recognition, however this application is impressive, only not yet on par with Siri. Perhaps the future will be a little brighter for Assistant Speaktoit but for the moment, the developers certainly have more work to do. Score global-81/100

5. Vlingo - Vlingo is different from the other clones of Siri tested here, mainly because it is not a clone of Siri. In any case, Apple got their ideas of Siri Vlingo. Vlingo is a highly polished, well done application that does what it intends to do mediocre. Although it uses a lot of voice recognition, Vlingo is unable to talk, but was not designed to do so. You can send texts, emails, search and tell you the weather but don't expect to hear any corny jokes it. If you are really in the market for a personal assistant that depends largely on that this is your best bet for voice input. If you can learn your commands and use the functionality of this application it will be a real time-saving.

This test has shown that Android does not yet have a viable solution to Siri, but it will come. I believe that if we are never going to see a personal assistant that is better than Siri application, Google will have to put their own develepors to work. For the time being, Assistant Speaktoit and Vlingo are their two best bets depending on your preferences. Try them and see what suits their needs, which are free market, as well as other applications tested. Also, click on the link to find more Android app reviews and suggestions. Thanks for reading!
