After it was announced in February of this year, there was much expectation in the months that followed but the long wait finally came to an end as a supported Android released version of adobe air. This has come as welcome news to many developers, especially those who use Flash Builder or Flash Professional CS5 because this means will now publish air applications directly on the Android market. Unfortunately, this new version is not compatible with the usual packages that were intended for desktop and this means that users will be mainly restricted to applications that have been developed specifically for this release. Luckily, despite having only reached the market already there are many applications that have been developed and it is cutting more and more so every day.

The only real thing regrettable is that most android users may not take part in these celebrations and not for any other technical reason the fact that have little or no idea what Adobe AIR. To give you a brief idea of what this means for you, I'll give a brief definition and some history of the air.

Of course, everyone knows Adobe AIR means Adobe Integrated Runtime and this is a cross-platform runtime environment for Web applications. Adobe flash, Adobe flex, Ajax, and even the most common HTML all serve this purpose when one is using air. The difference between air and the traditional type internet applications is the fact that while the previous applications simply were implemented through the Explorer AIR applications simply can implement on the desktop as regular applications. Of course this also means that the application will also have installed on the user's system, but this also means that it is also much easier for applications access to data in the file system users that make more flexible as opposed to applications based on browser.

Since 2007, there have been at least nine different versions of Adobe AIR that have been released, including the 'Linux of Adobe AIR 1.5' which was the first stable version of air that had been released for the Linux operating system that has been very popular with many independent and autonomous and developers programmers. Adobe AIR for android is now the last to join the family of 'AIRs' that was recently released and until now is receiving criticism from users.
